Susie’s Blog

I would do anything for the VCS but I won’t do that.

Posted in VCS, moaning about accounts, org devpmnt by Susie on March 27, 2008

In my time working for this organisation I have done the following:

Cleaned toilets & pavements (in quite unpleasant circumstances)
Unblocked drains
Trimmed bushes
Dealt with shouting clients
Stared crisis and despair in the face at least twice a week and triumphed
Understood the budget which is like translating the Rosetta stone but really emotionally loaded
Coped with a workload that would kill a donkey (coped with some of it by ignoring it but still)
Mopped up tears
Produced accounts with no training or natural ability and with CEO in full Scary Mode, growling at me, grr
Restrained a bad dog
Entertained children
Put up flat pack furniture
Painted and drilled
Talked to important external people and not said anything too appalling
Navigated emotional waters so choppy they made the Trisha show look like an exercise in Victorian repression

And I thought I had no boundaries but now I have discovered one. In our business planning session today someone suggested we do a team building outing and I was forced to say, over my dead body/ when hell freezes over (I paraphrase: I was more polite). No really, let’s keep on doing our teambuilding like we’re doing at the moment, all falling out and sending marvellously passive-aggressive emails copied strategically to people and then making friends again and eating things. It might be dysfunctional, but, you know, I’m used to it now and if you put me half way up a Welsh hill in a canoe I won’t be answerable for the consequences. I mean it. No teambuilding. Oh my God. Paintballing. Building a raft with inner tubes and hope. No, I’m not even going to think about it, it’s too awful.

Abseiling. Kill me now.

    As Mrs Doyle would say.
“A go on. Go on.Go on. Go on. Go on. GO ON”

Team building – did it in my first job in the Lakes back in 1987 and I agree with you. Why be forced into silly games with people you were strangling the week before and have a contract out on for the week you return!

Good to see you still chipper … ICT Hub stuff all got strange but we’re pulling through. Got 3 more years to avoid meeting up with you now. HA!!

Hello Paul look how late I am replying. What kind of a life is it when you put your job before blogging, eh? No life at all. I am very happy you have three more years to avoid meeting up with me, HA! Because (and so not going into any politics) whenever anyone has said anything about the future of something rhyming with Pub and Cub I have been thinking, but, what of that bad Paul Webster? So I am glad. Twitter. If I was on Twitter it would go like this:

4pm thinking of whether to have a biscuit
4:10pm or possibly a Flakey Cake
    4:15pm drinking tea
    4:20pm argued with someone grrr
    4:30pm eating Belgian Bun

You would be bored within a day.

    Susie

ps are you coming anywhere near Cambridge in the near future? Shall we have another go?

Susie, your life and antice sould be perfectly suited to Twitter …. give it a try, see if you can stay on it for longer than Mr Ruskin.

BTW, what happened at 4:25pm ?

I wouldn’t like to comment about meeting, although it will happen. Will certainally let you know when in the East.
